There are 2 types of Anti-Static PU foam cannot be recycled.
Usually found in packaging for cushioning.
- Pink Antistatic PU Foam (Surfactant-Based)
- Polymer-Bound / Non-Migrating Antistatic PU Foam
Environmental profile all PU Foam | – Not biodegradable
- Migrating QACs are toxic to aquatic life if released in wastewater (through cleaning, landfill leachate, etc.).
- Foam degrades into microplastics over time. | – Not biodegradable (still PU).
- No leachable QACs, so reduced ecotoxicity risk.
- Still degrades into microplastics at end of life.
- If PU foam is burned, it releases toxic gases (CO, HCN, NOx).
PadPak cushion packaging are a natural cushion protection and do not contain any toxins – paper is biodegradable and kerbside recyclable.
Over 80% of paper is recycled in the EU.
Never use PU foams when an FSC® certified paper solution exists.
